Christmas season for my family has always been a time for expressing love through gift-giving and acts of kindness.  We’ve served meals together, donated toys and clothing, and joined other families in displaying God’s love. In 2019, we decided to take the money that we would have typically spent on each other to buy gifts and necessities for people who couldn’t afford to buy them on their own.  We called the organizations that we usually volunteer with and were told that they had more than enough volunteers.  We started to ask ourselves: What about the forgotten people? What happens to the people that can’t or won’t make their way to the large, organized events? Do those people get gifts at Christmas time? We decided to head out on Christmas morning with personalized gift bags to distribute to people experiencing homelessness. We met a multitude of people, young and old, with one thing in common: they all needed to know that they mattered.  Although we had taken great care to include things that we deemed important, we realized that the most important thing was the act of giving itself.  Making an impact is just that easy.  One gift at a time; One heart at a time.
